6 weeks already??
I can hardly believe it's been a month since my last blog post. How terrible! I've been meaning to write to y'all, but all my moments of inspiration have been taken over by the urge to eat or nap. C'est la vie while living in Broome with 2 jobs I suppose... What have I been up to? Well, working at Lustre as a supervisor and at Diver's Tavern serving and bartending. Great fun! Lustre is pretty chill and I'm in the cafe mostly, and Divers is usually pretty intense serving a lot of people on a daily basis. Divers is one of the "happening" places in Broome with lots of cool live acts, and a great chill vibe. All the people I work with at both places are super awesome. My friends include some Germans, Aussies, Frenchies, Canadians, Americans, Irelands (hehe), Brits... list goes on! It will be weird once this little part of my trip comes to an end. I am looking forward to not working anymore and chilling out again, but it is super awesome making money and having fun doing it! I'm currently quite tired... got home 1230ish last night after work, and had to work 7am this morning. Knocked off a bit early from Lustre today so I need to nap before work tonight at Divers. Day off tomorrow woo hoo!
Weather here is still pretty sublime, but I do have to admit that the last few days have been a BIT chilly. I think it went down to 6 degrees one night which is pretty bloody cold here, but it is the dead of winter in Broome now... I hold my head high though and proclaim that this weather is GORGEOUS, I love the wind, and they all (locals) need to stop complaining!
I've decided that after some bar experience, I prefer making coffees. It's a much more creative, fulfilling experience. And that's what life should be anyways, right? A creative fulfilling experience. There are a group of old men that come into Lustre every morning - this one in particular named Jacko never used to smile; hard egg to crack. However now, I've got him and his friends rating the coffees and I get a smile outta all of them everyday, so that's pretty fun. My flat whites (for all you Canadians, a flat white is kinda like a latte but in a normal cup - coffee and milk with just a little foam) have gotten the highest rating thus far with a 9/10 - the other men give 10/10s but never Jacko. Perhaps one day, but I'm not holding my breath. At Lustre there is also this really cheeky seagull named Gully that hangs out around Lustre and waits for the bacon leftovers from breakfast, or any leftovers for that matter. He is really quite funny, walking in, then if we walk out he turns around and leaves like he never intended on swooping in. I really like seagulls.
I'm still riding my bike everywhere which is doing me well with health and fitness. I haven't felt this good in ages. Perhaps years. It's really great. Lost 25lbs since I landed in Oz which is pretty awesome. Melissa is still away on her walking tour until the 20th, so looking forward to her return and going to Zumba again with her. She is so funny! This Friday is Stairway to the Moon here in Broome. When the moon is rising over the ocean, the reflection on the water looks like a staircase to the moon - this only happens on full moons and certain times of the year. Since I don't work tomorrow, I will be heading to the beach to witness this beautiful sight. Before I leave Broome, I will be doing some touristy things like riding the camels on the beach, doing an Astro Tour to learn about the southern hemisphere sky, whale watching tour (humpbacks), seeing Cape Levique and Windjana Gorge, and eating at Divers with my new good friend Margaret having a JUG of delicious golden ale and a platter of ribs for two. I had a couple order this combination last night and it just struck me as so amazing and the best order I've ever put through, so I told her and she knew exactly how awesome this was - we have now got a date when we both have the night off to share a jug or two and a platter of ribs. Sooo excited. Margaret is awesome, such a cool girl from the states.
Well just 50 days till I'm back in Cairns - the time is flying by here! Been in Oz 3mths now already. July 21st I'm doing my camping tour down the west coast for 10 days and swimming with the whale sharks. In Perth for 4 days then flying to Cairns where I'll work again for a couple months and buy a car hopefully. I am working tons but loving life. Meeting so many great people, having new experiences, learning new things, and just so excited as to what the future offers. Here is a link to my "Broome" album on facebook for your viewing pleasure - some silly pictures for sure, but these are my friends here. Totally silly and awesome. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150176416514757.323910.511839756&l=6b665e7cad
