Day 3 and it's finally starting to set in that this is real. Lisa and I went out last night - had some bevvys (everything is -y in Australia. I'll demonstrate: drinky, bikey, esky {that's an eskimo cooler}, divey...), and now I'm chilling in the cyber world for a bit before I head back up to my room to explore more of my backpack and figure out all the compartments etc. It's so sweet I lovvvve it! Can't believe I'll be living out of it for the next year or so. Pretty freeing feeling. Like my Dad says (quoting one of his old friends), "If you ain't got nothing, you ain't got nothing to lose."
I'm sitting here in the hotel lobby listening to all the Aussies around me and all I hear is "Hey mate, y'alright?" Hehe love it. Last night the four of us (me, Gordon, Lisa, Ross) went for a great Turkish meal - I had the falafel, and it was some of the best falafel I've ever eaten. We just had a big dump of rain, but that's alright because it' still so warm. Woke up about 10am today, went to the pool for a few laps, then ventured out to meet with Gordon for some breakfast. Things are quite expensive here, but I suppose that is to be expected because it's very touristy. Gordon and I sorted out my Visa yesterday for my entry into Indonesia so that'll be all ready for April 4th. I'm really excited about my visit to Tombagapura where he works, to visit the mine site, then fly off to Bali with him for a few days. I imagine I'll land back in Darwin once I'm done in Indo, and make my way through the Kimberly area towards Broome and then do some diving off the Ningaloo reef. This reef is only 10mins off shore (unlike 2hrs off shore Great Barrier Reef), and not too touristy. I'm looking into my best bet to get my PADI Open Water certification here - either here in Cairns or in Bali if I stay an extra few days. How awesome is that... :) I'm a little nervous to dive again since it's been a few years since I did it last but I just remember the totally elated and amazing way I felt after I got out of the water.
My mind space here is relaxed.. it feels like a holiday (which it is I suppose), but being such an extended holiday is so freeing and almost undescribeable. What lies ahead no one knows. My life is a blank page, getting slowly notched into being whatever I make of it. Much love and thanks to all my loving and supportive people back home and around the world. XOXO
