Road Trip August 2010 part 1
on Cortes Island. Simply beautiful here. Rustic, green, quiet, full of
sea life and bustling in the summer high season. Tonight Jess, Sinan,
Rebekah and I went to Hollyhock (a spiritual retreat) to listen to two
authors speak about alternative science and medicine - it was very
interesting!! Their names were Rupert Sheldrake and Andrew Weil -
great speakers! Talked about the human genome, inheratibilty problem,
precognition and much more! Left with lots to ponder.
We started the day today with a trip to Mansons Landing during low
tide. It is stunningly beautiful during high tide but quite marvelous
at low tide too. We went for a walk, picked up some star fish, found
some sand dollars and shells, and absorbed some sunshine. Afterwards
we went for a little drive around Cortes - Cortes is only about
20miles by 5miles so doesn't take long to get around. Next stop was
Hanks Beach....... A rocky beach with a beautiful view. With this
being my first visit to the ocean this year I was determined to go in
the water! Skies were starting to go overcast but the water was warm.
I decided to suck it up and get into the water. No one else joined me,
but once I was in I was having a great time!! Then it was time to get
out... I wore my crocs into the water because of the rocks. Didn't
lose them, so I'm climbing out where I came in on some semi-slippery
rocks. Low and behold, I slip and fall on my butt. Typically not a big
deal, however I haven't mentioned the barnicles stuck to the rocks.
Barnicles are sharp, and proceeded to scratch/slice&dice up my butt
and left hand. The tips of my fingers took the brunt of it! Good thing
I had a nurse and paramedic in my company so I didn't have much to
worry about. :) Bit of a pain now - I'm trying to keep the tough face
on!
We got icecream and headed back to the yurt. Started playing Trivial
Pursuit but Sinan was beating us 1-3 so we started with Scrabble.
Rained the hardest it's rained here all summer. We showered, ate some
yummy homemade dinner and headed out to Hollyhock! Good day. :)
Tomorrow Jess and I head back to Nanaimo. I'll be meeting back up with
Kim in Nanaimo to ferry over to the mainland and stay with my aunt and
uncle for the night. Hope to see Nana and everyone!
More to come with details on our trip to Port Alice to see Janet and
Steve... Bed time!
