Awareness is the greatest agent for change.
It's Sunday morning - a Sunday morning full of fatigue and feeling seriously fuzzy up in thurr due to staying up till 2am working on this blog with Jess and drinking red wine 4452.4kms apart... via skype! Love it! Annnnyways. My inspiration for today has come from surfing through my facebook page and noticing how one changes throughout their lives. My hair hasn't changed much, my makeup always rocks, but the thing that stands out for me is my yo-yo waitloss/weightgain. Such a pain in the ass! Literally! It is so hard on your body to go up and down in weight, but it's harder on your mental-self. *stupidstupidstupidstupid!*
I long to look like I did back in college, but I don't long to be back in college. I long to live somewhere exotic, but perhaps I would get lonely? A saying that has been coming up in my life a lot recently is "the grass isn't always greener on the other side". Or, as my friend Danielle says, "Things are never as good or as bad as you make them out to be." So I guess what I'm getting at here, is the key to life is finding balance. I recently asked my father (who thinks I've almost run out of time to get my life in order - I'm 25) what he wishes I would do right now in my life. After about 30 seconds of contemplation, he said "To find balance." I totally understand. Balance is important within ourselves, and balance is all around us. Symmetry is in our faces and bodies, the laws of physics to build monstrous buildings in Dubai, from plankton to killer whales and honey bees to hornets! It is the foundation of this world! The human race is doing our best to screw it up, but that's a whole other topic I'll leave to Jesse.
I believe the key to my weightloss is to remove the huge neon sign I carry around with myself that says "UGHHHHHHH I PUT ALL THAT WEIGHT ON AGAIN NOW I GOTTA LOSE IT, BUT I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY WANT THAT BOUNTY BAR. UGH WHATEVER I'LL HAVE IT AND NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. NOW IT'S 8PM AND I'M THINKING ABOUT THAT BOUNTY BAR AND FEELING VERY REMORSEFUL ABOUT IT. DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M SO STUPID!!!!"
I know, that's a huge sign, and believe me, it takes its toll on the knees going up the three flights of stairs to my apartment.
So how does one remove the huge neon sign? Minimize the drama in your head of what you're doing. "Yeah so I need to shed some pounds so I'm just going to not eat chocolate bars for a while. Ooooh, this is a good song!" And onto the next topic. I remember in high school I had this HUGE crush on a guy who didn't reciprocate the feelings... So eventually I got fed up thinking about this guy all the time, that whenever he popped into my mind I would just pop him back out! Low and behold, I got over him! In a much easier way than being all dramatic and pestering him till he told me to screw off.
Sooo, yeah, I gotta lose a few pounds. No big thing. As a promise to this blog I will NOT eat a chocolate bar today from the convenience store next door to The Pet Den. Damn convenience store trying to sabotage me. I mean... whatevs, it's all good. Back to people watching! :)

ahh the dreaded bounty bars! I remember we used to split them, hehe.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right, its all about balance, and comprimise too!
If you're going to have a bounty bar, then make yourself take the stairs, or walk 2 times around the block, or try using fat free plain yogurt and drizzling honey on top with granola and coconut, be creative! oh and dark chocolate is soooooo much more satisfying (and good for you) than the sugary stuff..
