Greedy-gimmies and goals
This photo made me stop dead in my speedy-google-reader tracks:
It is courtesy of Holly Becker, of Decor8 and Haus Maus fame, who recently relocated from the states to Hannover. While being an awesome blogger and someone with warm style, she also inspires in me a serious case of the greedy-gimmies. (Berenstain Bears reference, tyvm).
Maybe because right now Vancouver Island is swallowed up in rain and wind, I suddenly find myself thinking, "Want.... out... of... here... must... move... Germany." And when I get on to this train of thought I often revel in it a while, basking in self-pity and thinking my life is not all I want it to be.
This time, however, I've made a conscious decision to avoid that line of thinking. After all, just last week I was walking along the waterfront and decided I lived in paradise. Life is good, why am I stressing out? And if there are things out there that I want to accomplish, what good is it to mope around and think, "Why not me?" Thus, "30 before 30": 30 goals to meet before I turn thirty. I got the idea from Laure over at At Home At Home (you can read her goals here).
Without further ado, my 30 before 30:
1) Tour of Death (Epic Europe trip consisting of WWI and II battlegrounds, concentration camps, museums and galleries. And food. And wine.)
2) Buy a house
3) Run 10 miles straight
4) Ride bike to work regularly
5) Go to art school
6) Plant and harvest a vegetable garden
7) Go to New York
8) Make a zigzag quilt
9) Start having kids (or at least start thinking about them)
10) Be a size 12 (I'm not greedy universe, see?!?)
11) Cut hair above shoulders once
12) Eat ethically
13) Recycle and compost like it's my job
14) Offer thanks at every meal
15) See family at least every two months
16) Have a front door that is red
17) See Elton John live
18) Write an article (bonus= published)
19) Work casually or part time in public health
20) Volunteer once a month
21) Drive a station wagon
22) Learn to canoe and/or kayak
23) Drive the Oregon coast
24) Make a greater effort in my personal relationships
25) Raise some chickens
26) Join a team sport
27) Eating Tour of Italy
28) Get another dog
29) Own a full size couch
30) Hardwood floors!!!
Whew! Here's hoping that putting my hopes and dreams out there will clue the universe in to what I'd like for Christmas! I'd really like to know what others have planned for themselves in next five or so years. As always, please leave a comment if you feel so inclined!

Jess I can totally relate... once you realize the grass may not always be greener, it makes you less eager to run away.
