Everyone Is An Artist
As some of you may know, I work part time at a pet store called The Pet Den. Behind the Pet Den, is a photography studio. This past Saturday, the photographer Franco told me that he was hosting a party for his friend's Agency "Everyone Is An Artist" and said I should stop by. I've done some freelance make up work this year, but got a bit intimidated by the whole idea. I had become disillusioned by my fear of not succeeding or not being good enough, but I knew I had to take this opportunity because I still love make up!
I sat in The Pet Den for a few hours watching reruns of Dragon's Den feeling a bit nervous about going over there, but I asked myself "Do I want to go? Is this a good thing for me to do right now?" And my inner answer was "yes". So I sucked up the fear and went for a walk with Jasmine with the last stop being "Studio Den". I walked in in my completely unflattering and not-stylish-anymore blue Columbia jacket I got in high school, threw on a brave smile, and shook hands with the founder of the Agency, Kyle. Jasmine was a hit - there were jokes of her dueling it out with the rat in the alley. Attention is off me and on my dog - perfect! I fill out the application form and get lined up for my video portion. Thank god I blow dried my hair this morning and put on some day make up - this does not happen often anymore! A consequence of working mainly from home I guess. Another bonus was the black eyeliner and fun lip gloss I keep in my purse so I could do a touch up. Did the video: "Hi, my name is Nicola Henderson, and I am a makeup artist!" Maybe I'll get some voice-over work from this??? Then I did a mini photo shoot with Franco which was fun! It all felt very glamorous - bright lights highlighting my best angles, and I even remembered to get all the dog hair off my black on black ensemble.
Everyone was so friendly! I was chatting away with people, smiling, laughing, schmoozing... So glad I got the nerve to jump on this opportunity! What a bummer it would have been if I had just seeped further into the world of online streaming video letting nerves get the best of me.
The one thing I am really taking away from this and I hope you will too is the part when I asked myself if I really wanted to do this. Listen to your gut instinct. You can use this technique when deciding which colour to paint your bedroom, which can of soup to buy, or which parties to accept or decline.
When Jessica and I first started this blog, we wanted to have a focus on make up - helping people figure out what colours suit them, how to apply eye liner, etc. Well, anyone with a beauty question feel free to leave a comment/post a photo and I'll be sure to help however I can!
Before I retire for the evening, I must add...
THREE fun "Pretty Standard" things to report:
1)Everyday I tell Jasmine how much I love her about 20x in the sickest baby voice you can imagine and I don't care who hears me.
2)I bought two nail polishes today - OPI "Funny Bunny" and "Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees". I am very excited to do my nails tonight!
3)I have happily invested hours into making so far two Christmas cards and loved every second! I bought some spray glue today to seal in all the glitter, so I am really excited for everything to dry so I can see the final product! They're so rewarding to do - can't believe I'm into crafts, but sometimes it's surprising the things you end up liking.
