Pink Crush
I'm totally in love...with pink. I just can't get enough of this colour right now. I want it on my clothes, in my hair, on my walls and on my cheeks. There is just something inherently optimistic about pink that seduces me, even at a time when I should be gravitating towards jewel tones and earthy colours.
Cute baby notwithstanding, I love love love Nicole's pink zig zag rug and pink polka dot throw pillow. The white in the Eames rocker (a chair dear to my heart) and other white accessories make it more accessible and easy to live with. And did I mention the cute baby?!?

In my day dreams, I have a English accent and am the true keeper of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy's heart (screw you, Elizabeth Bennett). In my real life, I sport this soft pink number from Anthropologie, and just watch the BBC miniseries/Colin Firth movies instead. (aside: OMG I love this bag so much)(photo from 20x200)
And to prove not all pink is girly and superfluous (though it surely helps), check out this print available through 20x200 (affordable art for reals!) by artist Jason Jagel. There is so much going on in this print that I see something new each time I look and it causes me to reconsider what I think it's all about.
While I have always been a fan of pink, I tend to drift through colour moments, and have recently "finished" with orange and blue, packing away my pillow covers until the time comes I get swept up in an orange phase again.
I'd love to know, are you finding yourself drawn to a certain colour? Do you waffle on colours like I do, or keep it pretty consistent?
I'm definately a "waffler". I think all colours have so much to offer! I remember the Young's house in Victoria and how every room was a different colour - such a fun idea! I recently thought something was perhaps "wrong" with me not having a favourite colour or favourite number. So I picked both - favourite number is 9 (or any multiple of 9 - this helps when picking lottery), and favourite colour is purple. I like pink but it's just not a great colour on me (unless it's fuschia), so I tend not to gravitate to the colour.
ReplyDeleteI am a "bright" colour kinda gal. Pink, orange, green, yellow, red, blue, purple, fluorescent...you name it, I love it. I can't pick a favourite because it depends on my mood and what the context is - but I can almost guarantee given the choice between bright and subdued, bright is might!
ReplyDeleteI know this is late, but it's funny to mention that I can't even picture pastels on you, Dranna. I think of a baby blue on you and automatically think, "MAKE IT BRIGHTER!!"
ReplyDeleteIt is another question for the ages: What came first, the person's personality or their colour preferences? Which informs which? Ponder THAT.
P.S- Bright is Might sounds like some propaganda from a dictatorship based on the principles of laundry detergents and bleach.
As I sit here drinking "Rice Nog" I think I'm going to stir the controversy by saying that personality precedes colour preference. According to Stringer (1994), colour preference is highly correlated with introverted/extroverted personality traits. Introverts prefer colours that blend more, such as pastels or earth tones, whereas extroverts prefer colours that stand out and get noticed, for example fluorescent green.
ReplyDeleteAlthough true that correlation is not causality, this link between personality and colour suggests they are related. The fact that this preference was found in children raised in the absence of bright colours (Barroner, 2004) suggests a unidirectional relationship with personality dictating colour preference.
Unfortunately, due to ethics controls it is not currently possible to systematically and scientifically test the direction of the colour-personality relationship. However, when I run the world under my bright is might dictatorship, the rules might change.
